Why It Matters
Indexing is the fundamental prerequisite for search visibility. If search crawlers encounter server errors, restrictive robots.txt blocks, or unintended noindex directives, your content cannot appear in search results or AI search citations regardless of content quality.
Verify HTTP Status Codes: Confirm that primary page URLs return clean 200 OK status responses rather than 404 errors, 500 server crashes, or multi-step 301 redirect chains.
Audit Robots Directives: Pages are indexable by default, so no robots meta tag is needed. Check that public pages don’t carry a noindex directive in a <meta name="robots"> tag or an X-Robots-Tag HTTP header.
Review Robots.txt Rules: Ensure your robots.txt file does not include overly broad Disallow: rules that accidentally block access to critical CSS, JavaScript, or body content.
Google Search Console Verification: Use the URL Inspection Tool to perform live fetch tests, review rendering output, and request immediate indexing for updated content.
