Why It Matters

WebSite schema explicitly defines your canonical brand name and site URL relationships. Adding alternateName (for example, a shorter version of your brand name) helps when your official name is long. SearchAction markup is harmless to keep but no longer produces a search box in Google’s results.

JSON-LD Structure

Add the WebSite block to your homepage only:

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "WebSite",
  "name": "Example Company",
  "alternateName": "ExampleCo",
  "url": "https://example.com/"
}

If Google Shows the Wrong Site Name

Google picks the name from WebSite markup, your homepage title, headings and how other sites refer to you. Make them agree: use the same name in the markup, the homepage <title> and your logo’s alt text. Changes can take a few weeks to appear after Google recrawls your homepage.
